Prague is one of my favorite cities! It’s bohemian, cheap, and a good time! 3 days in Prague are the perfect amount to see the city and take a day trip.

3 Day Itinerary for Prague

Spending a long weekend in Prague is the perfect introduction to this cultural, bohemian, eccentric city. Prague is one of my favorite cities in Europe and an amazing experience for anyone to have. Here’s how to spend 3 days in the city:

Day 1:

Visit Old Town Square

Old Town Square

The heart of the city and the perfect starting point! This square is beautiful, historical, and helps you get oriented to the city. If you want you can also visit the National Gallery here.

See the clock strike on the hour

Prague Astronomical Clock

At Old Town Square you can find the famous astronomical clock. Be sure and time your visit right so you can see it chime on the hour.

Experience history in the Jewish quarter

Prague tram

Next you can walk on over to the Jewish quarter. This is the best preserved Jewish ghetto in Europe, because Hitler decided that he would make it a “museum of an extinct race.” Thankfully, that didn’t happen, but there are several synagogues you can still visit. The Jewish cemetery is well worth the visit.

Enjoy Czech beer at an underground bar

Czech beer

Prague is famous for it’s cave-like underground bars and cheap beer so you have to experience yourself!

I highly, HIGHLY recommend doing a beer tasting tour! I’ve done this tour and it’s a great way to see the city, learn about beer, and taste many different kinds while you’re at it!

Day 2:

Walk along Charles Bridge

Entrance to Charles Bridge

Charles Bridge

This iconic bridge gives you a great view of Prague castle and is full of vendors and street artists. It’s also right on the way to the other bank of Prague, where you can visit over sights such as:

Marvel at the John Lennon Wall

John Lennon Wall

This colorful wall is filled with John Lennon’s face, song lyrics, and usually political issues. It frequently has street performers so you can get some great photos and have a show.

Explore Prague Castle

View of Charles' Bridge

This huge castle complex is actually the biggest ancient castle complex in the world. It’s beautiful, but it’s much better to take a tour while seeing it so you understand all of the history!

Take a cruise on the Vltava

Cruise on the Vltava

A must-do in Prague! It’s so beautiful. If you don’t want to take a cruise the least you can do is have a meal on a terrace overlooking the river.

Day 3:

Take a day trip to the bone church (Kutna Hora) or Cesky Krumlov

Cesky Krumlov
Cesky Krumlov

Cesky Krumlov is a beautiful little town in the south of the Czech Republic with gorgeous medieval buildings and a castle to visit. It’s really worth it to visit and spend some hours exploring the historical center. You should try to make it before it’s overrun with tourists!

Kutna Hora Bone Church

Warning: Scroll past if you don’t want to see human bones

bone church
Yes, those are bones

The Bone Church is a super unique monument, but definitely not for the fainthearted. When the church’s cemetery became overcrowded, they hired a local woodcarver to create something out of the bones being stacked up underground. Thus began the bone church. It’s a bit creepy to see, but honestly wasn’t as bad as I was expecting (Now the catacombs in Palermo, Italy are another story…)

bone cathedral

You can try to visit by yourself, as there is a train that takes you to the city of Kutna Hora (about an hour from Prague). You can then make your way to the church by walking. The tour is very interesting though as well as being a bit easier (taking trains in the Czech Republic can be complicated).

Bone Cathedral
The main attraction of the cathedral: A chandelier made out of every bone in the human body

Prague is an amazing city and full of great things to do. How would you spend 3 days in Prague?

I loved Prague and did basically the same things as you, although I can’t believe we missed the Bone Church. We saw an interesting ossuary in Portugal, and I am so intrigued by them.

I love getting out of the city when I travel. I’ll have to look up that ossuary in Portugal!

I have been to Prague a few times, it is such a beautiful city with plenty of things to do. I do need to explore more of the Czech countryside, hopefully next year when I plan on doing a road trip around Eastern Europe en route to visit my family.

I had no idea that Prague has the largest ancient castle complex, I’ve visited the fortress in Budapest and that was huge. I can only imagine how massive that site must be! Thanks for giving me ideas for when I visit.
