Most of the UAE’s amazing sights and attractions can be found in Dubai. Filled with a mix of culture, nature and unmatched modernity, there is a surprising trove of things to do in Dubai. In this post, we have put together some of them which allow you to create your distinct Dubai holiday experience.

1. Keep a full day aside for Downtown Dubai

Downtown Dubai Fountain

Downtown Dubai is the epicenter of the most stylish and extraordinary sights. Unsurprisingly, this 500-acre glitzy neighborhood holds some of the world-renowned, record-breaking attractions such as:

Burj Khalifa: This 828-meter high structure is not anything ordinary; it’s the world’s tallest building! Its centerpiece attraction is its two observation decks on the 124th and 148th levels, of which the latter is the highest of its kind. Treat yourself to the most astonishing 360 degree views over the city skyline, which comes with the bonus of enjoying one of the world’s fastest elevator rides.

The Dubai Mall: A mix of over 1200 outlets (of almost all famous fashion brands from all over the world) plus more than 200 dining venues and tons of entertainment choices make it the favorite hangout spot for shoppers, connoisseurs of tastes and leisure seekers alike. Among the must-visits are Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, KidZania Dubai, Dubai Ice Rink, and Ekart Zabeel.

Dubai Fountain: Be sure to watch this extravaganza of music, light and water that takes place outside of the Dubai Mall at Burj Lake and against the towering Burj Khalifa. It’s free to watch, but you can take in the show up-close from an exclusive standpoint by going on abra ride along Burj Lake or by standing at the purpose-built Dubai Fountain Boardwalk.

Apart from these, it’s worth visiting its other attractions like Souk Al Bahar, Dubai Opera, Burj Park, and Burj Plaza to name a few.

2. Shop at Traditional Souks

Souks of Dubai

Shopping in Dubai’s over 70 gigantic malls is an unmatched experience. That said, nothing comes closer to souks when it comes to bargain shopping with a dose of fun and traditions. After all, souks are the region’s traditional bazaars with a rich history and eclectic array of shops. It not only allows you to pick unique souvenirs and authentic Arabian stuff at relatively cheaper rates, but also lets you discover the street food scene. There is the Perfume Souk, Old Textile Souk, Spice Souk etc, but the most popular of all is probably the Gold Souk, which is entirely dedicated to the sale of pure gold jewelry.

3. Explore Al Bastakiya Quarter

Al Bastakiya Quarter Dubai

For most people, Dubai is all about its contemporary cityscape. But as you venture deeper; its atmospheric quarters, particularly Al Bastakiya Quarter, have its own charm. Also known as Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood, this 19th century quarter with narrow lanes and ancient sand-colored structures is still preserved to its original glory. Some of them are now converted into museums, art galleries and cultural institutions, mainly Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding, the oldest of its kind Al Fahidi Fort (which now houses Dubai Museum), and Coin Museum.

4. Dhow Cruise

Dhow Cruise

This is especially for those looking for a relaxed way to cap off their evening in Dubai. It involves a leisurely sail aboard a traditional wooden dhow and further comes with the most unobstructed views over the illuminated nighttime skyline views of Dubai. In fact, it also easily fits the bill for an alternative sightseeing experience. That’s not all; this cruise is mostly enriched with the finest food and extraordinary live traditional entertainment shows onboard.

5. Join a Guided City Tour

Dubai tower

Most recommended for those with limited time in Dubai. A city tour, however, is ideal for those who don’t want to miss Dubai’s top sights including Atlantis, The Palm Resort, Burj Al Arab, Madinat Jumeirah, Jumeirah Mosque, Dubai Creek, Dubai Museum, and more. It takes you all over Dubai, while giving you an enlightening overview of the Emirati tradition and past. You can also opt for combo tours which not only cover all iconic landmarks, but also come with entry tickets to the region’s unmissable attractions / experiences such as IMG Worlds of Adventure, Ski Dubai and the Green Planet Dubai. Just make sure that you take this tour through an experienced service provider.

Bollywood Park

Dubai has some of the world’s fantastic theme parks and they are definite to entice every ability and age. If you are after a place that captures all your theme park imaginations and fantasies, Dubai Parks and Resorts is your go-to destination. It’s the region’s first integrated resort and has four theme parks, apart from diverse accommodation choices plus a dedicated retail and dining section. This includes Hollywood-themed Motiongate Dubai, Bollywood Parks Dubai, LEGOLAND Dubai, and LEGOLAND Water Park.

8. Desert Safari

Desert Safari

Dubai has seen an unprecedented and unrivaled growth over the past two decades, with its top-notch infrastructure and high-end and superlative sights. But if you’re looking for a refreshing alternative to all these, Dubai’s desert is still untouched and you can experience it for yourself on an all-inclusive desert safari. Featuring a mix of super active pursuits and laid-back activities, a desert safari in Dubai promises you an adventure and cultural experience of a lifetime. This range from high-speed 4X4 dune bash to camel ride, Shisha smoking, falconry and henna tattooing. Moreover, BBQ dining and traditional shows such as Belly Dance and Tanura show round out an evening desert safari.

9. Go on an Exciting Air-Borne Adventure

XLine Dubai

Taking to the skies is unarguably the ultimate way to admire Dubai’s sheer majesty and splendor. And you can do it in a variety of ways, from helicopter ride, seaplane tour and an insane sky diving session over the astonishing ever Palm Jumeirah to XLine Dubai which lets you experience the world’s longest and fastest urban zipline. Nice to meet you!! I’m a small town Texas girl w Nice to meet you!! I’m a small town Texas girl who has since lived abroad and traveled to over 50 countries.Growing up, travel seemed so unattainable and just not in the stars for me. I was always interested in different cultures and languages, but the biggest cultural experience I had in my small town was the taco truck down the street. Now, I’ve lived in 4 countries, learned 3 foreign languages, and have discovered that travel doesn’t need to be for the uber rich or dual nationality. I’ve created a lifestyle for myself that lends itself to travel, adventure, and new experiences.I’ve discovered countries with a backpack, from the back of a motorcycle (@thetejanabiker), on a student visa, and hopefully soon from the left seat of a single engine airplane (as soon as I get my license!!)If any of this resonates with you, you’re in the right place.
Welcome to the adventure my friends 🗺️
